The Professional Education Department (PFD) of the College of Education (COED) spearheaded the 8th Young Educators’ Congress held at the Ugnayang La Salle on February 8, 2019.  The theme of this year’s Congress is “Embracing Students’ Diversity.”Most of the participants of the Congress are from different schools in Calabarzon. In her Remarks of Circumstance, Mrs. Relyn S. Antenor-Cruz, PFD Chairperson, stressed that De La Salle University-Dasmarinas and the College of Education has remained steadfast in its advocacy and commitment to uplift and promote the nobility and prestige of the teaching profession in the Philippines and in the world. Now on its 8th year, the College of Education has taken the challenge and the initiative to gather young educators in order to establish linkages and networks with various teacher training institutions in Cavite and other regions through congresses, seminars, research presentations and other activities.

The first speaker of the event in her talk “Foundations of Inclusive Education,” Dr. Marie Therese A.P. Bustos, Dean of the College of Education, University of the Philippines, Diliman, draw the attention of the audience to the fact that inclusive education remains a task. With the implementation of the K-12 program, the Department of Education (DepEd) faced the difficulty of implementing inclusive education. However, Dr. Bustos is optimistic that DepEd will overcome the issues in inclusive education.

The second speaker, Ms. Lou Sabrina S. Ongkiko, public school teacher of Culiat Elementary School in Quezon City, cited “the three bridges” in inclusive education: (1) Understanding (empathy or entering into the context of a student), (2) Relationships (creating friendships in class), and Solidarity (teaching students to become good and responsible persons).

Tokens of appreciation were given to the guest speakers.  The event ended with an awarding ceremony.
